Way back in January, Kiss manager Doc McGhee revealed that that the glam-rock giants were planning a return to Australia in 2013 and that news has now been confirmed via a Facebook post by Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. The star of your favourite rocker-compleates-collage-degree reality show Tommy Lee Goes to College has told his fans that he has completed touring for the year and will be taking “a little break til Jan 2013 then off to Australia with Kiss n Motley”.

LOCAL MAN HAS KISS CONNECTION

Mark Buckingham recently designed drumsticks for KISS's drummer Eric Singer, and the drumsticks are currently being sold at the band's concerts.

The day after their shed show with MÖTLEY CRÜE in Toronto (September 14th), all four dudes in KISS threw a small Friday afternoon get-together for their label, Universal, to celebrate the imminent release of their HEAVY new album, Monster.

In attendance were mostly folks from the label, plus radio personalities from around town as well as a few invitees at the behest of the label. Food, drinks, a chance to get a picture with the guys, autographs, chit-chat... it was a well run soiree, 4:00 to 6:00 at the newly constructed Noble Studios on a dark and rainy day in west-end Toronto.

The first thing to do when speaking to Kiss' Gene Simmons is to get to the truth of the matter. After nearly 40 years of being in the dressy demonic ensemble, the bassist, entrepreneur, and reality television star wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Ask him what he thinks of partner Paul Stanley's 2009 statement to this writer that "democracy is overrated" in relation to the Starchild's production of that year's Sonic Boom, and Simmons chuckles. "Yes," he says. "Everybody can't have equal say. The good thing about Paul is that he was able to commit the time and the mental fatigue that it takes to stay in the studio for three months. I didn't have that. I'm way past that."

TOMMY THAYER TALKS GUITARS, INFLUENCES AND THE MAKING OF "MONSTER"

Following a full decade without a studio album, KISS made a spectacular return to form three years ago with Sonic Boom, a no-frills album that recalled the band’s mid to late ‘70s glory years. Incredibly, the group’s forthcoming new album, Monster, is an even greater triumph. Packed with explosive energy and the sort of guitar riffs other bands dream about, Monster seems destined for a prime spot among other KISS classics.

 Even more so than on Sonic Boom, guitarist Tommy Thayer played an integral role on Monster, writing or co-writing ten songs and, alongside Paul Stanley, delivering half the band’s two-guitar punch. Clearly, he’s established himself as an indispensable cog in the current KISS lineup of Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and himself. In the following interview, Thayer talks about the new album, his main guitar influences and why Gibsons are his choice guitars both on-stage and in the studio.

How did the band approach making the new album?

Generally, it was the same approach as Sonic Boom. We didn’t have an agenda. We just wanted to write great rock and roll songs and make a cohesive album. With Sonic Boom, it was more like testing the waters, seeing how things would go with this lineup and with the band as it is today. We came up with a great record, obviously, and we found that we could be effective and lethal in the studio. Monster takes those things to a new level, and ups the ante in terms of the songs and the production. It was similar, but it was new and improved as well.

KISS "MONSTER" ALBUM INFO
Kiss News has been given the following information from the record company concerning the realese of the new album:
The "Monster" album is scheduled to be released in the following formats at the following release dates (as of today, subject to change):
5.10.2012: Germany, Austria and Switzerland
8.10.2012: rest of Europe
9.10.2012: USA
10.10.2012: Japan

The album will also be released in other countries, but the available formats and release dates may vary. In Japan at CD Japan the first pressing will also contain a free Bonus-Poster.

The album is supposed to be available in the following formats:
CD (USA, EU-pressing with original logo and German pressing with censored logo). CD with original logo is available here at Amazon USA and here at Wow HD.
CD (limited edition with 3-D cover): probably also available as US-pressing, EU-pressing with original logo and German pressing with censored logo. Seems to be available here already at Amazon Germany.
Picture Disc: strictly limited US-Picture Disc, which will also be available in Europa as import. However, it will only be available from one retailer in each country. Since it is a stricly limited edition it will be rather expensive.

There are no confirmed infos concerning Bonus Tracks.

KISS IN NASHVILLE CONCERT REVIEW

We wanted the best, we got … KISS. We also got Mötley Crüe last night at Bridgestone Arena, where we took in “The Tour” — a Dr. Feelgood-meets-Dr. Love arena-rock double-shot that was like a 10-story-tall gilded middle finger to subtlety.

This wasn’t The Spin’s first rodeo when it comes to KISS’ storied, cliché-by-design concert experience. When we caught the band’s Bridgestone 2009 performance, our biggest complaint (besides suffering through tragically tuneless, shirtless openers Buckcherry) was that Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and their hired-hand impostors opened with “Deuce” into “Strutter.” An awesome one-two punch to be sure, the set-topping pairing of the band’s two best songs meant, at least musically, the show was all downhill after its first eight minutes.
