KISS ROCKER PAUL
STANLEY BUYS IN PALMS PLACE
(from Blockshopper.com)
by Dan Fey, BlockShopper Staff
Rock and roll star Paul Stanley bought a two-bedroom, two-bath condo at
4381 Flamingo Road in Paradise for $3.29 million from TAS Properties on Aug. 15.
Unit #5708 is one of 599 in the 47-story Palms Place
development, which was built in 2007.
Stanley, 56, is best known as the
lead singer and the principal songwriter for the long-running rock and roll group Kiss.
With a career dating back to the band's inception in 1972, Stanley penned some of the
group's biggest hits during its glory days in the 1970s, including Rock and Roll All
Nite, Detroit Rock City and Hard Luck Woman.
Although the band's album sales never quite matched those of some of their rock
contemporaries, the band developed a reputation its legendary Kiss Army following on the
strength of their live performances. Stanley's on-stage persona, Starchild, is one of the
makeup-clad quartet's most identifiable figures, and Stanley's guitar-smashing finales add
a signature element to the group's concert performances.
The band has two gold-selling singles to its credit: the 1976 hit Beth, written by
drummer Peter Criss, and I Was Made for Lovin' You, co-written by Stanley in 1979.
Stanley detoured onto a brief solo career in 1988 and again in 2006, but has been the face
of the band for three and half decades. The band's latest tour, Kiss Alive/35, stopped in
Las Vegas in August.
Other tenants in the Palms Place development include racing legends Mario and Michael
Andretti, pop singer Jessica Simpson and former UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian.
Condo sales in Paradise dropped nearly 33 percent in 2007 versus sales in 2006. The
median sales price went up though from $375,000 to $512,000.

Several members of the band KISS appeared on behalf of their friend Jeff Young, who has lived with ALS also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease, for nearly 25 years. Young is one of the longest living survivors of the illness.
This is proof positive that Portland isn't just a nice place to live in, but it actually has nice people, said Gene Simmons, longtime leader of KISS. Everybody here has come with big fat wallets full of cash and we're going to relieve them of all that money and actually do some good.
A support group called "Friends of Jeff" organized the benefit auction, dinner and concert in Lake Oswego.

power and intensity of Pauls legendary songwriting and showmanship at full throttle!
The movie will be shown in its entirety, in High Definition on a large screen. Director

NEW BRUCE KULICK SOLO
ALBUM
(from genesimmons.com)
Was happy to lend a hand to the powerful and attractive BRUCE KULICK, who is in the
midst of his solo record.
Bruce, as you all know, was lead axe grinder in KISS for many years.
He's now playing with Grand Funk Railroad. My son, Nick recently went to one of the gigs
and came back raving about it.
Anyway, Bruce and I wrote a toon called 'AIN'T GONNA DIE' -- pretty cool
stuff. The songwriting happened very fast. We sat around the house and came up with chord
patterns and the basic melody came to me almost immediately.
Then, we met at Henson Studios in Hollywood, and between Jeremy (who
played my Axe bass on the track), Bruce and myself, hashed out the lyric in one sitting.
The vocals and the track were mostly done in one day.
My good lookin' son NICK also came down to the studio and found himself
in the vocal booth scatting his own melody/lyric. What a voice this kid has, if I DO say
so myself.
Nick will be working with Bruce on a song or two, as well. Singing lead.
And, we brought down our GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS tv crew to film some
of the recording.
For more info, check out Bruce's website: KULICK.NET.
From left to right..

(drums)

KISS BEST - KISSOLOGY
REVIEW
(from rockpages.gr)
Almost a year ago, Rockpages had revealed that KISS had entered the studio to re-record 15
classic songs of the past with the current line-up. This move has to do with licencing and
marketing reasons and it is a path that many bands follow nowadays. We simply cite the
names of Journey, Helstar and House Of Lords. KISS releases this compilation in Japan
(although it seems that it will come out soon in the rest of the world) and leave all in
all positive impressions.
The first thing that we notice is that Simmons/Stanley/Singer/Thayer had spent many hours
in the studio to achieve the result that we have in our hands. We are not talking about
some hasty rehearsals and recordings after 1 or 2 takes and the band has succeeded in
recapturing the atmosphere of the first versions. The production although far
better and clearly up to date- is cleverly crafted in such a way so as to remind the
original tracks, while Simmons/Stanley sing with almost the same tyle and Singer is
putting on his best Peter Criss imitation on Black Diamond. I Was Made
For Lovin You is probably the biggest deviation of the first recordings, as it
sounds even poppier with the addition of some female vocals in the chorus. Some small
differences are naturally found in every song (especially in the drum patterns). As it was
expected, the lions share is taken by the 70s (11 out of the 15 in total songs),
while the 80s are represented by I Love It Loud, Lick It Up,
Heavens On Fire and Forever. The truth is that we would like
to see at least one song from the 90s (cued from Revenge).
As a conclusion, we are certainly happy that KISS entered the forbidden (for them) realm
of a studio
even for some re-recordings!
Highlight: Lets hope that the US/European version will be released under a different
name, because its hard to swallow that the last (probably) KISS studio
release will pass in history with the name Jigoku-Retsuden!

PARTY'S ON FOR JEFF
YOUNG - BUT WHERE?
(from Lake Oswego Review)
If you got an invitation to the party, you dont even know where it is yet.
But when two members of the 70s rock band KISS play an acoustic set at a Lake Oswego home next Thursday, exactly where will be a closely guarded secret.
Only those who RSVP and buy a ticket will know the address. And they wont find out until Friday, when the secret location is sent via e-mail less than a week before the show.
Organizers want to the avoid any security problems that might come with two world-famous rock stars. But when show-goers turn out to see Gene Simmons and Tommy Thayer wielding guitars in the 97034 zip code, theyll be doing more than just partying.
They will also be donating thousands of dollars to a local friend who suffers from ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrigs Disease). Since 1983, Jeff Young has suffered from the disease, which shuts down the bodys nervous system, crippling the physical abilities of its victims.
Youngs battle with the disorder has been featured previously in articles in the Lake Oswego Review. He is nationally known for his long-time battle with the disease, which often claims its victims in three to five years.
Youngs story received national attention in 2007 when ESPN documented his role as assistant coach of Lake Oswego High Schools football team, patrolling the sidelines from his wheelchair.
Jeff needs the help and Im someone who can orchestrate an event like this, Thayer said. There are many great people that are friends of Jeff and want to help. Hence the Friends of Jeff organization, that is competely dedicated to putting on a fantastic fundraiser with the help of many, many caring people. We want to help Jeff because hes such a unique and special person. He is a fighter, an inspirer and a gifted man.
Since 2000, Youngs inspirational Web site at www.friendsofjeff.com has funneled motivating quotes to readers who sign up for updates.
Previously, Young had been a college football player, then a musician and screen writer. While a guitar-player, Young collaborated with the band Black N Blue, through which he and Thayer became friends.
Now, Thayer and others are doing what they can to support Young and the financial expense of his illness.
Friend Debi Hayes said Young is facing pressure from the state to move into a nursing home to curb medical expenses.
Were eliminating that from happening because hes not there. Hes too active to go to a nursing home, Hayes said.
Its not really a gig, Thayer said. Its a fundraiser to raise lots of money to go 100 percent directly to Jeff to help him with his day-to-day needs. But we will have lots of friends, great food, auctions and entertainment as well.
The event promises to raise thousands in door sales and through an auction of donated items. Spectators will pay $100 a ticket or $250 to have a private reception with the band. The show has already reached capacity at 300 attendees, who were first to respond to 1,500 invites sent via e-mail.
Concert-goers will dine on a salmon buffet, enjoy cocktails from one of three bars and bid on a range of auction items, including a week in Mexico. Theyll also enjoy a rare acoustic performance by two world-famous guitarists, one that comes with a view of
Well, were not telling.

Allan Brown on Wednesday sued Simmons and two business partners, claiming the group cut him out of a 2006 deal between the Kiss bassist and the racing league.
Brown is seeking unspecified damages and is claiming fraud and slander. His suit alleges he helped broker the deal between Simmons and the IRL, but was cut out of the contract while on a personal vacation.
He also claims Simmons and his business partners mischaracterized him as "lazy" and "rich" to racing league officials.
Simmons promoted IndyCar racing in 2006,
