MANFRED
BAUMANN MEETS GENE SIMMONS
(from manfredbaumann.com)
As a huge fan of the reality show of Gene Simmons - Gene
Simmons Family Jewels I wanted to realize in this year in Los Angeles a photo shooting
with Shannon Tweed for my next big exhibition at the photokina. I really appreciate her
and think she seems in the show very authentic.
Shannon participated in her younger years at beauty competitions and also reached the
fourth place at the contest for Miss Canada. After she was elected as the Playmate of the
year in the magazine Playboy in 1982, she started with her filming career and took part in
over 60 film productions. Since 1986 she is the girlfriend of KISS front singer Gene
Simmons and since October 1st 2011 also his wife.

KISS NEWS
(from Armin Terbach)
Last week I was at Essential Broadcast Media as a "friend" of mine, she
works there as a publicist. It's a partnercompany of McGhee Entertainment who manage KISS.
She also works occassionaly for Doc McGhee and we talked KISS and she gave me some hot NOT
yet on the presses, KISS news.
Apparently Monster is put back to the fall after which they do a Halloween KISS Kruise and
a US Double Bill Tour not unlike the 2003 Rocksimus/maximus tour with Aerosmith but now
with another BIG , as yet to be confirmed name in the music scene. Also a Destroyer Deluxe
CD is planned for the late Spring, so NOT next month as rumoured. For Xmas there will be
another KISSTORY sized KISS history book (do we need another one? Though KISSTORY was the
ultimae KISSTORY??) in the stores as well as a new DVD boxset (KISSOLOGY?? With
finally the then over 3 year old Cobohall 2009??). In 2013 they will tour Japan, Australia
and Europe.

even a Grand Funk Railroad (Bruces current band) could also be possible we think,
but thats up to the organisers.

BEST
KISS SONGS, ALBUM BY ALBUM - READER'S POLL
(from
ultimateclassicrock.com)
In honor of Kiss frontman Paul Stanleys 60th
birthday today (Jan. 20), were taking a big look back at the bands career by
revisiting every single one of their 19 studio albums and giving you the chance to vote
for your favorite song from each of them.
From their nearly unassailable first six albums, through the ups and downs of some rocky (but also rewarding) disco, progressive rock and pop-metal influenced records, all the way up to 2009's Sonic Boom, the history of Kiss is recounted step-by-step in the following pages, along with your chance to pick the best track from each record.
Were very excited to see which songs you choose as your
favorites from classics platters such as Destroyer, Creatures of the
Night and Revenge, as well as what you salvage from well,
maybe-not-so-memorable albums such as Crazy Nights or Music from the
Elder. We hope you enjoy this tour as much as we did!

BEHIND
THE MAN OF 1.000 FACES: INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR ROSS BERG
(from
kissfaq.com/Tim McPathe)
"For years,
I've lived inside my dreams. Somehow, I've made them real, it seems. I made my own rules
because I am: Man of 1,000 faces." ? -- Gene Simmons?
Upon visiting Gene Simmons.com and clicking on his official biography, one is instantly
greeted with:
Gene Simmons co-founded KISS 38 years ago!!!
KISS continues to be the juggernaut of licensing/merchandising, with over 2,500 licenses.
KISS has broken BOX OFFICE RECORDS set by the Beatles and Elvis and continues stronger
than ever.
KISS has been AMERICAS NUMBER ONE GOLD RECORD AWARD WINNING GROUP of all time.
(RIAA).
Conversely, upon clicking over to page two of his official biography, one will find the
following nestled at the top of the page:
Gene Simmons was born in Haifa, Israel in 1949, and is the
only child of his mother, a German Nazi Concentration Camp survivor.
He has always attributed his ethics, morals and drive to his mother's notion's about life.
"Every day above ground, is a good day," his mother is apt to say. Every day
above ground, indeed.
Released in January, "Gene Simmons: A Rock 'N Roll Journey In The Shadow Of The
Holocaust" offers a unique examination of KISS' resident Man Of 1,000
Faces. With his inventive and readable style, author Ross Berg paints an intricate
portrait of Gene Simmons, detailing the roots of his childhood, while weaving threads
between the Holocaust, his love of comics and horror films, KISS, songwriting, his
childhood experiences, and his affection for his mother. Six years in the making, the
result is a fascinating work of "narrative nonfiction" that provides a view
inside the metamorphosis of Chaim Witz to Gene Klein to Gene Simmons.

ACE
FREHLEY TALKS "BUDOKAN" LES PAUL CUSTOM
(from gibson.com)
Gibson Custom has recreated one of the most famous
guitars in music history the Ace
Frehley Budokan Les Paul Custom. The master craftsmen at the Custom Shop
have forged this tribute to the KISS guitarists most famous axe. Frehley nicknamed
his Les Paul Budokan because it was the very guitar he played when KISS broke
The Beatles' sell-out record at Japans legendary Budokan arena in 1977. It also was
Aces main touring guitar throughout 77 and 78, was his go-to studio
guitar after that and was used in the 1996 KISS reunion.
With the Ace Frehley Budokan Les Paul Custom, Gibson Custom has painstakingly recreated every single one of the idiosyncrasies of Aces customized guitar, drawing on digital scanning technology and working closely with Frehley and the guitars current owner, Matt Swanson. When Frehley recently took one of the guitars for a spin, he was amazed at how much the guitar felt, played and sounded like the real deal.
Check out Gibsons exclusive interview with Ace below,
in which he shows off the new Budokan Les Paul Custom, talks about KISSs
early days and shares some stories from his new book, No Regrets.

ICE
HOCKEY PLAYER GETS GENE TO SIGN HIS STICK DURING WARMUP
(from The
Vancouver Sun)
Jannik Hansen may be one of about a million
billion athletes thats been given the honey badger nickname by fans, media, and
teammates since that Youtube video went viral, but just because the nickname has become a
huge cliché doesnt mean its a poor fit for his personality. Truth is, like
his animal namesake, Hansen does and takes what he wants.
Case in point: last Sunday night versus the Anaheim Ducks, while he was skating
around in warmup, Hansen saw Gene Simmons sitting by the glass, and screw it, he wanted an
autograph right at that very moment. So, you know, he just skated over and got
one because Jannik Hansen dont care.

KISS
TO HEAD TO AUSTRALIA NEXT YEAR
(from The Music
Network)
by Nathan Jolly
This year has barely started, however KISS manager Doc McGhee has told The Music
Network that the stadium rockers will be heading down under in 2013.
McGhee, who has managed the careers of Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Guns n
Roses
and Adam Brand, is currently on the promotional trail with blues rock band Vintage Trouble, who
are playing five dates in Australia, beginning next week. When asked last week by TMN
whether Kiss have plans to come to Australia McGhee replied, Yes, next year.
2013.
There is obviously no word yet as to how far along the plans are, but the tour will be the
bands first visit to Australia since 2003. Its also too early to tell how this
will affect the fortunes of Kisstroyer,
who bill themselves as Australias Hottest Kiss Tribute.

GENE
SIMMONS HELPS OPEN CHILD-PROTECTION CENTER IN B.C.
(from Winnipeg Free Press)
SURREY, B.C. - Kiss rocker Gene Simmons has lent his celebrity to help open
a facility near Vancouver that will help children facing abuse.
Sophie's Place in Surrey will bring together child welfare staff, police, counsellors and medical professionals to help children 12 and under who are victims of mental, physical and sexual abuse.
The facility is named after Simmons' daughter, Sophie Tweed-Simmons, who advocated for such a centre after meeting with Surrey's mayor.
Gene Simmons and his daughter were both on hand Sunday for an event at the centre, which is expected to officially open next month.
Tweed-Simmons says it's important to her that children have a
place where adults will take them seriously and where they can talk about what's happened
to them in a safe environment.

ACE
TALKS MUSIC, DRUGS AND FEUDS IN HIS NEW MEMOIR
(from
examiner.com)
No Regret: A Rock N Roll
Memoir by Ace Frehley, Joe Layden and John Ostrosky (Book)
A couple of things are made perfectly clear in Ace
Frehleys memoir No Regret and neither have exactly been a secret up to this
point. First, fellow Kiss member Gene Simmons is a complete jackass who cares about
money and little else. No shock there to anyone who has ever heard him utter a word
outside of his songs or read any of his interviews. Second, fellow Kiss member and
co-frontman Paul Stanley is not nearly as bad as Simmons, but pretty much plays the role
of co-dependent wife to Simmonss domineering husband. Again, nothing earth
shattering there, but it feels a bit concrete to finally read Frehleys take on the
long-discussed dynamics of the glam rock band.

GUITAR AUCTION AIDS DAVIES FAMILY
(from telegram.com/Steven H. Foskett Jr. TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF)
Autographed ax donated by real rockers to local ones.
Despite a shipping mix-up, a local KISS tribute band is continuing its effort to raise
money for the children of Worcester Firefighter Jon D. Davies, who died Dec. 8 in a fire
on Arlington Street.
Hundreds of items of memorabilia related to KISS, the longtime arena rockers, litter the
pages of eBay. There are posters, plaques, and even a listing for a 34-year-old
combination guitar pick/bloody towel thrown by lead singer Gene Simmons (USED BLOODY
TOWEL from DECEMBER 16TH at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN KISS ALIVE II TOUR, the
description reads). And among these is a brand-new Washburn Iceman guitar, signed by all
four members of KISS: Mr. Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer. Bidding had
reached $5,400 as of tonight.

VAN
HALEN DEBUTS UNRELEASED SONG FROM 1976 GENE SIMMONS DEMOS
(from
hennemusic.com)
Van Halen
returned to live action Thursday night with a rare, media-only club show at New
Yorks Café Wha?
The event was to help promote their forthcoming new album, A
Different Kind Of Truth, due February 7; the projects first single, Tattoo, is
set for release next Tuesday.
Thursdays 250-seat club show was the bands first live set since their July 3,
2008 gig at the Plains Of Abraham in Quebec City, the final show of the groups
2007/08 reunion tour with David Lee Roth.
The setlist featured mostly hits, with a few classics, and one new track, Shes The
Woman.
The new song has a real history with the band: it was one of the tunes recorded for the Gene Simmons-produced demos in 1976, and it was
re-recorded a year later as part of the 1977 Warner Brothers demos. The original version
of the song includes riffs that were later found in Mean Street, from 1981s Fair Warning album.

PAUL'S
COMMENTARY ON 6 NEW TRACKS
(from Kissonline)
Classic Rock Magazine's February issue features
Paul's thoughts on 6 tracks from KISS's upcoming album! Here's an excerpt:
______________________________
When it came to recording KISS's new, 20th album, Monster, Paul Stanley was wearing a big
hat with the word 'Boss' on it. Metaphorically, anyway.
"I wasn't interested in making an album unless I was in charge and no one agreed to
it half-heartedly," says the singer and guitarist, taking a break from co-producing
the record at Conway Studios in Hollywood. "The band's all there, all the time, and
we cut the tracks all facing each other in the same room. Chemistry and camaraderie,
that's essential. That's what made Sonic Boom so great, and this album is thunderously
better."
Firm but fair, we say. And if Stanley is to be believed, then their late-career hot streak
shows no sign of fizzling out anytime soon. Which is why we've asked him to take us
through Monster's key tracks. Take it away, Mr. Starchild...
"IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN"
"It says that those who reach heights and don't appreciate them fall mightily -- it's
a long way down from the top. It's a defining track in the sense that it's very up-tempo
and very much a signature song. Eric's [Singer] drumming is incredible on this."
"BACK TO THE STONE AGE"
"One that Gene sings. It's exactly what you'd expect it to be from the title. I come
from a school where you write a verse, a bridge, a chorus, and then you go back. That's in
my blood. It's in Motown, it's in The Beatles, it's in Led Zeppelin, it's in The Who, it's
in all my favourite bands."
"SHOUT MERCY"
"That's a great track. There's a lot of tracks that could start the album, and this
is one of them. I like to think that the opening song is a declaration of what the album
really is, whether it's a Love Gun or a Detroit Rock City. It's important to start with a
song that defines what you're gonna be getting."
"OUT OF THIS WORLD"
"That's one of Tommy's [Thayer, guitarist.] He really pushed the limits. His playing
is phenomenal. It has the kind of excitement that I like to hear where you're not quite
sure if it's gonna go off the rails or not. That's what makes great rock n' roll."
"WALL OF SOUND"
"We're not trying to reinvent the wheel here; we're at our best when we don't
over-think. It's not a Rubik's Cube, it's a song, you know? This one is absolutely,
immediately recognisable and identifiable and true to being KISS. I put the blinders on us
to keep us from being derailed or the attention span broken by things going on around
us."
"HELL OR HALLELUJAH"
"Another up-tempo song, and it's very definitive. That's what I think is so great
about this album: every track is quintessential. No one does it better -- and many have
tried. When we hit the bulls-eye, we hit it full on. We've cut 14 tracks. How many we'll
use or how this will play out will be interesting, but there's no filler."

INTERVIEW:
GENE SIMMONS
(from
consequenceofsound.net)
KISS has had many incarnations. Their faces have
graced everything from T-shirts to coffins, even Hello Kitty dolls. One thing theyve
been no stranger to is comics. Besides having their own Marvel series in the 70s,
the band appeared in the 90s reboot (and accompanying album book) Psycho Circus,
published by Todd McFarlane Productions, and, most recently, the wholesome panels of
Riverdale in Archie, written by Alex Segura and drawn by Dan Parent. Over the
holidays, we caught up with KISS mainstay Gene Simmons for an in-depth conversation on the
comic book industry, marriage, and why the band Chicago has a leg up on The Ramones.
Youve always been a pretty huge comics fan,
right?
I actually lived it and breathed it. You know, when I first came to America, I was
eight and a half years old, and I remember one of the first books was The Brave And
The Bold, and that was introducing the new Flash, the Silver Age Flash. You have to
remember names like Gardner Fox and Carmine Infantino. I just devoured it. And, of course,
the Atlas Group, the Kirby era monsters, and the Ditko off-world things. I bought the
Harvey books
there are lines of comic books that I collected all the way from A to Z,
from Charlton publications all the way to Dell and Gold Key. I mean, I had thousands and
thousands.
