PAUL
PLAYS "LICK IT UP" WITH STEEL PANTHER
(from Blabbermouth)
KISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley
joined the '80s metal/hard rock tribute band STEEL PANTHER
(formerly known as METAL SKOOL) to perform a rendition of the KISS classic "Lick It Up" exclusively
on Altitude. Watch video footage of the performance here.
STEEL PANTHER's lineup includes guitarist "Satchel"
(real name Russ Parrish; ex-FIGHT) and
singer "Michael Star" (real name Ralph
Saenz; ex-L.A. GUNS).
Paul Stanley recently confirmed to Classic Rock magazine that
the band is seriously considering recording a new album. When asked what the future holds
for KISS, Stanley replied, "It looks
like we'll be touring Europe as well as the States next year. You'll be getting more of
what you saw at the Download festival this past summer the 'KISS Alive!' vibe amped up to the max. There might even be a new KISS album at some point. I have been ambivalent to the idea in the
past but I'm much more open to it now. . . I thought that I'd be content for KISS to remain a heritage act, just playing our greatest hits 'Detroit Rock City' and all that. But the new KISS
lineup with Tommy Thayer (guitar) and Eric
Singer (drums) is proving to be so good, so strong in spirit, it would interesting to
see how we perform in the studio. I must stress that no recording time has been booked at
this point. But it if we were to go into the studio, the intention would be to make a KISS album in the style of our 1970s recordings. A classic KISS album, unmistakably."
Paul Stanley's new DVD, "One Live
Kiss", sold 6,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to
debut at position No. 3 on the Top Music Videos chart.

KISS
MAKING FIRST ALBUM SINCE 1998
(from Billboard.com)
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Kiss has reversed course and decided to hit the studio next year to record its first new
album since 1998's "Psycho Circus." Guitarist Paul Stanley will produce.
In recent years, bassist Gene Simmons has been vocal about his lack of enthusiasm about
making a new album, which he attributes to the state of the business.
"The record industry is in such a mess," he told Billboard in November 2007.
"There is nothing in me that wants to go in there and do new music. How are you going
to deliver it? How are you going to get paid for it if people can just get it for
free?"
In 2006, Stanley told Billboard making a new Kiss album in the shadow of the band's
classic repertoire would be a formidable challenge. "The fact is, [fans] may tolerate
the new songs, but it's the old ones you want to hear," he said. "I think Jimmy
Page and Robert Plant found that out. The [Rolling] Stones certainly know it. The Who
certainly know it. So unless you're willing to go into the studio accepting that how your
album will be received will never match your expectations, I'm not sure it's worth the
effort."
Stanley admitted complete control would change his mind. "I would consider doing it
if I could do it the way I wanted to do it," he explained, adding that his 2006 solo
album "Live To Win" confirmed how he'd "like music to sound that I'm a part
of. To do another Kiss album, I would not be willing to compromise my point of view
perhaps as much as I have in recent years."
It's unknown how Kiss will distribute the album, which will feature original members
Stanley and Simmons alongside guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer.
Following its 35th anniversary tour, which primarily played Europe this summer, Kiss is
expected to hit North America at some point in 2009.

BRUCE
FOSTER (GUEST PIANIST ON "NOTHIN' TO LOSE")
(from rockpages.gr)
We continue our year-long KISS special feature with the 19th interview of a
KISS-related figure. This week, Bruce Foster, the pianist behind the excellent middle
section of Nothin To Lose remembers that session in 1973! Heres an
excerpt:
Rockpages.gr: You played piano on the now KISS classic tune "Nothin' To Lose".
What do you remember from the recordings of that song?
Bruce Foster: Adding piano to Nothin' to Lose was an after thought of Richie
Wise, the producer. I had finished playing on some Gladys Knight tracks and other artists.
Richie was then producing, so he had a chance to hear my range of playing styles, one of
which was like classic Jerry Lee Lewis. That may have inspired him to combine that element
with Nothin To Lose. I performed that piece as an overdub several days
after the initial recording date. I think it was a good call because it really moved the
track to a place that everyone seemed to like! I got so carried away on getting the right
approach on the barrel house glissandos that my fingers started to bleed. I recall Gene
Simmons coming into the room & being impressed that there was blood on the piano keys.
Whenever I saw him for years after that he would kiddingly inspect my hands to see if I
ever figured out how to get the right effect without maiming myself!
You can check the rest of the interview on: http://www.rockpages.gr/standard.aspx?type=13&sub=K&lang=EN
